In light of the criticism and a boycott due to lack of diversity at this year’s 88th Academy Awards, host Chris Rock actor-comedian has thrown away the script he received and is rewriting a new one for the show.
This lack of diversity for Oscar nominations continued for the second year in a row has been addressed by many actors, many of whom have decided not to attend the annual award event. These include actors like Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith as well as the director and producer Spike Lee.
Chris, however, has decided not to shy away from the controversy, which is why he and his team have locked themselves up in a room and are working on the new opening monologue for the show, hoping to deliver something that people will talk about for weeks.
Entertainment Tonight had the Academy Awards producer Reginald Hudlin quoting, ‘Rock is hard at work for the Oscar night, as he has thrown out the script I wrote and is writing a new show.’
Not only that, we are sure that the audience is eagerly waiting to hear what he has to say about the lack of diversity. In addition to that, Hudlin says that, ‘You should expect #Oscarsowhite jokes, And yes, the Academy is ready for him to do that. They know that’s what the public wants, and we deliver what the people want.’ Speaking in regards to how talented the 50 year old comedian is, Hudlin says, that he is 1000 percent sure that what Chris will deliver will be brilliant and it’s going to be something what people are going to be talking about for weeks.
One actor who is looking forward to Chris’s speech is the 51 year old Don Cheadle. He tells People magazine, ‘This should be a career defining moment for Chris Rock. I mean, there is no one better poised, in my opinion, or equipped to go in on this sh—. And I hope when he does, he skewers everybody.’
Guess we all have to wait till Feb 28th to hear the much awaited speech on television. I am definitely going to glue myself to the TV that day. Are you? Go Chris Rock, we are really excited to hear what you have been working on for so long. #Oscarsowhite.
